Gemma Parkinson
There are a few threads running through my work. First is the influence of my family. The loss of my father has left a void in my life and it has made me appreciate the realtionships around me whether they are with my mother, grandmother or my three brothers. It has made me question the fragility of the human body and the impressions that people and circumstance can make on you. The idea of a protector or angel plays an imporant part where size and scale are key features.
Secondly, the repeating process. Knitting has been pivotal in my work and has come from the repaired relationship betweeen my grandmother and I. The generation gap seems to have closed for those few moments when we talk about knitting, and we can finally connect from completly different worlds.
