Claude Heath has previously drawn using a blindfold and working from touch alone. Most recently he has drawn from stereoscopic aerial photography, making drawings of man-made and natural landscapes, such as quarries and Ben Nevis. The resulting works are sometimes sculptural and make reference to the sense of touch, so a virtual haptic drawing tool was felt to be a useful comparative excercise for a visual artist who has relatively little experience in this field. Claude Heath (b. 1964) lives and works in London . He studied philosophy and has rapidly gained recognition for his paintings, drawings and wall-drawings through group exhibitions at The Saatchi Gallery, London (1996), Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (the 1996 Open, the exhibition Antechamber in 1997, the 1998 Open), De Appel Foundation, Amsterdam (1997), The British Museum (2001), essor gallery (2002), London, and the Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (2004). Claude Heath was a Prizewinner in the 1997 John Moores Exhibition. He was the first artist-in-residence at the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, and this led to a solo show in the Study Galleries, Leeds City Art Gallery (1999). For 'Sculpture on Paper' (2004) he selected works from the drawing collections at Leeds, also for the Study Galleries. Recent one-person shows include Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York, Kettle's Yard, Cambridge, and Sleeper, Edinburgh . His work is included in several major British art collections. The artist is represented by Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York.
