Beverley Hood will talk about Ersatz, a 3D computer-generated self-portrait, presented as a life-sized performer within a responsive installation environment, created using 3D body scanning and motion capture techniques. The work is being developed as part of a Leverhulme Trust funded artist-in-residence post at the Edinburgh Virtual Environment (EdVEC), University of Edinburgh, from Sept 03 - June 04, with project costs funded by an AHRB Small Grant in the Creative & Performing Arts. Beverley Hood studied BA (Hons) Sculpture, ’91-’94 and a PGDip Electronic Imaging, ’95-’96 at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. She has worked with the web and interactive media since the mid 90’s, creating projects that examine how we negotiate, identify and interpret transitions between real and virtual space. Beverley has taken part in numerous artist residency programmes and worked with a range of international organisations to create projects including: c3; New Media Scotland; LUTCHI Research Centre; Akiyoshidai International Art Village. Her work has been exhibited in the UK, Europe, North America and Japan. Shows in 2004 include: Doppelganger, Galerie Werkstatt, Reinach , Switzerland / Streetlevel Photoworks, Glasgow , Scotland (solo); Doppelganger, HOST, New Media Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland (solo); Blindsight, Centrespace, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee, Scotland/Artspace Titanik, Turku, Finland.
