Type
Journal Article
Journal/Volume No.
Landscape Journal Vol 25(1)
Output Details
Originality: this is the first academic paper that discusses in detail one of the very few Patrick Geddes landscapes to be constructed in Britain. It introduces a new interpretation of the design concept for the zoo, both as a three-dimensional expression of Geddes's Valley Section and as an articulation of Geddes's philosophy of education.
Rigour: Landscape Journal is the only academic journal for landscape architecture based in North America and has a highly regarded, international editorial board and peer-review process.
Impact: this peer-reviewed paper has been acclaimed by Marc Treib, leading international expert on 20th century landscape design history, in a note to the journal's editor Elen Demming: "Stood out like a shining star ... The depth of research was impressive, and the ideas and content clear—and I will never look at a "valley section" in the same way again."
