Wood Engravings for exhibition, publishing and design, commissioned illustration: Exploration of different approaches to wood engraving; the nature of wood surfaces for print; box, whitebeam, holly and lemonwood. Direct cutting and engraving into the block; engraving from preparatory drawing; hand burnished impressions on various papers; use of conventional and unorthodox tools; collage, multiple and colour printing. Themes are narrative, figurative, abstract and decorative.
Studio practice in Drawing and Painting: Research into the properties of gesso and sized grounds on wood; the use oil pigments and drawing media on wood. Carved and incised images into the painted surface. Exploration of traditional drawing media on paper. Themes are lyrical abstraction; constructivist traditions; evocations of landscape and interior space; representational and abstract form.
I have regular solo exhibitions in London and Edinburgh.
