My research field is the relationship of dreams and nightmares to the still and moving image, visual history and the visual arts. I study interchanges between dreaming and making art across disciplines. Recent work includes major study on Carnivals & Dreams, essays on the sound artist Douglas Henderson, on the "Specter" paintings of Eva Hesse, and three documentary films. My last film, Lanterna Magicka was published by the BFI in their DVD & BluRay edition of Bill Douglas's Comrades, and has been screened at four international film festivals this year. My current film is a study of druids and the traditional year in Somerset. Upcoming projects include a feature-length documentary on Tarkovsky & Dreams, and a book on the Prehistory of Dreams.
