Profile

Working with environment, structures and systems that are imperceptible, invisible or hidden – underground, underwater, microscopic, remote.

Research has involved work with companies such as East of Scotland Water (now Scottish Water), Industriellen Werke Basel (IWB), Switzerland - exploring the source of city water supplies, the National Hyperbaric Centre in Aberdeen - exploring pressure changes in the body, breathing and buoyancy, and with museum collections and archives - the Wellcome Trust, the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow Hunterian Museum.

Processes focus on material, sculpture, video and photography and often involve collaborating with people from other disciplines - creative writing, music, performance and science. Previous work has involved research and collaborations with writers Janice Galloway and the late George Mackay Brown, composers Pete Stollery and Marc Yates, the National Theatre of Scotland, and micropalaeontologists at the Natural History Museum, London. Ongoing research involves working with marine microbiologists at University of Edinburgh geophysics department and developing new work in relation to wave and tidal energy.
