Staff Research Profiles

With a background in horticulture and landscape architecture, I am interested in the interface where landscape and people meet and how they influence each other.

My present research is mainly within PLUREL, a multinational project, funded under the 6th European Framework of Research. In it, I am examining how land use change in urban, periurban and rural land settings affects residents' quality of life.

I have also developed and supervised research on the cultivation of tropical ornamental plants, in the Federal University of Viçosa, in Brazil. There I have been involved in adapting or developing techniques to make the production of tropical ornamentals accessible to low-income farmers, to give them a low-cost, environmentally sound and profitable alternative to some of their declining traditional crops.
