This department nurtures the development of individual interests through drawing, research, colour work and practical skills. Our students receive instruction on screen preparation and all aspects of silkscreen printing, embroidery and stitch techniques.

Students are encouraged to take an experimental approach to textile design in order to produce innovative and contemporary work. Sound research and an awareness of current trends in the design world enable students to develop contemporary directional concepts and collections. There is the opportunity to work with computer-aided design using the digital print and the CAD embroidery equipment. The department has close links with industry and embraces the opportunities offered by joint projects with fashion, furniture and interior design.

The department has an extensive track record for winning major awards, including: the Crown Wallcoverings Award and British Contract Furnishings Award, New Designers; the Anne Davidson Award, New Designers; the Emreco International Textiles Award, Graduate Fashion Week; and the Tiger Print Design Award, New Designers.
