This programme guides students towards an individual and appropriate means of expression in the context of contemporary art practice. Each student will be able to synthesise and innovate, communicate in a team and work independently, opening up a wide range of career possibilities.
The initial stages of the programme offer a broad range of time-tabled study and supervision, equipping students with technical and intellectual skills, enabling them to develop individual and group approaches. From Year 3 each student has an individual studio space and by final year students develop an independent programme of study with tutorial guidance. While painting is central to the programme, our students have opportunities to explore their ideas through photography, video, printmaking, installation and computer-generated imagery.
Painting has a varied visiting lecturer programme encompassing influential international artists, complemented by guest lecturers in areas such as literature, philosophy and science. Students and staff lead a wide variety of events and collaborations throughout the year.
