We are all surrounded, shaped and informed by a world filled with product design. From furniture to lighting, appliances and devices, product design is about enriching the quality of life, in the home, the workplace or in the public domain.
Product Design at Edinburgh College of Art explores the ever-changing ways of making connections between objects and people. Building on the design and manufacture of furniture, interior objects and fine products, our philosophy is firmly rooted in traditional and sustainable making techniques whilst guiding you through a more radical exploration of new materials, technologies, manufacturing techniques, contexts and concepts.
We teach you a broad process of how to find, play, make, talk product design that enables you to develop and appropriately define the boundaries of your own personal approach. We value innovative and thoughtful exploration and development of concepts through drawn, physical and virtual sketching in combination with a hands-on engagement with people, materials, markets and methods of fabrication.
Product Design at the College is guided by a diverse and prestigious Industrial Advisory Board of interior object, interaction design, device and appliance specialists.
