

ECA NOMINATIONS IN BAFTA SCOTLAND NEW TALENT AWARDS

Edinburgh College of Art’s Animation and Film & Television students are represented with a record number of ten nominations in the forthcoming BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards 2010, announced at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow on Friday 19 March. Last year, ECA received eight nominations and went on to win three of the final prizes. The BAFTA Scotland New Talent awards recognise emerging talent in the Scottish moving image industry. Both students and those already working in the industry are nominated for their work.
Categories for 2010 are as follows: Fiction, Factual, Experimental, Producer, Director, Writer, Animation, Interactive, Game, Music Video and Acting Performance.
In the Factual category, Year 2 MFA Film Directing student Anne Milne is nominated for her film Maria’s Way. She competes in the category against fellow Year 2 MFA Film Directing student Patricia Delso Lucas, nominated for her film Just to Call you Dad.
In the Fiction category, BA Film & TV 2009 graduate Reeve Rixon is nominated for his film Entwined, as is MA Film Directing 2009 graduate Gregory Vardarinos for Talking Piranhas. In the Experimental category, again there are two ECA students nominated – Year 3 Film & TV student Joshua Loftin for I am Nothing. I am Just a Man and BA 2009 Animation graduate Steven Shand for Symmetry.
The nominations for best Animation’ include Year 3 student Ania Leszczynska for her film Monster in the Toilet, and Owen Rixon, who graduated from the BA programme last year, for his film Welcome to Twister.
Finally, for best Music Video, BA 2009 Animation graduate Natalia Stuyk is nominated for Lamb and the Lion, along with Year 4 Animation student Steve Warne and Year 4 Film & TV student Julian Krubasik for their film, Lions.
Ewan Angus, chairman of BAFTA Scotland said "I'm delighted to see the announcement of this year's nominees, and I look forward to the ceremony on the 19th. My thanks go to the dedicated juries who watch each and every submission to select the best of Scotland's new talent.”
The BAFTA New Talent Awards are supported by Scottish Enterprise.
The Awards cremony on 19 March will be preceded by 'Scottish Students on Screen', a full day session dedicated to helping students understand the options in getting involved in the moving picture industry.
