Welcome to the Graduate Research School
The Graduate Research School (GRS) supports the needs of the research students community at the College. It provides research training, co-ordinates research student seminars, ensures the Graduate Research School Code of Practice is followed, liaises with supervisors and works in partnership with other Schools and Departments of the College and Registry on matters relating to research students.
At present the Graduate Research School has approximately 50 registered MPhil/PhD students studying on a full-time or part-time basis. Of these approximately 30% are undertaking research with a large element of creative practice, in areas such as fine art, film or applied design, with others primarily pursuing more traditional text-based modes. Some home and EU students are supported by UK research councils such as the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) or the Engineering and Physical Sciences Reseach Council (EPSRC), some international students are supported by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) through the Scottish Overseas Research Student Award Scheme (SORSAS) which covers the difference between home/EU and overseas fees, and others by overseas grants awarded by national governments or universities. Approximately 45% of the research students registered with the College are from outside the European Union, making the Graduate Research School particularly international in character.
